BARANGAY CHAIRMAN SALARY – Here is a guide on the maximum rate that a barangay can give as honoraria based on its city location.
The local government in the Philippines include the barangay level. It is led by the barangay chairman or chairperson who is called “Punong Barangay” in Filipino. In the barangay level, there are also seven (7) members of the Sangguniang Barangay or also called the Barangay Kagawad.
The Barangay chairman is holding a huge responsibility to his/her constituents. The chairperson is determined through an election — which includes the barangay poll that is held today, October 30, 2023.
On the other side of the responsibilities, there is no Barangay chairman salary but an honoraria instead. It is dependent on several factors including the scope of the barangay and the class of the city or municipality where the barangay is located.
Still widely called the barangay chairman salary, the honoraria must abide by the ceiling set by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM ) in the Local Budget Circular No. 149.

There are barangay officials benefits aside from the honoraria. Here are the benefits for the Barangay chairman/chairperson:
- Christmas bonus in the form of cash gift with the amount based on the rate approved under the law
- Insurance Coverage under the Republic Act 6942
- Medical Care that provides free hospitalization in government hospitals
- Free tuition and matriculation fees in government schools including two (2) of the legitimate dependent children
- Conferment of Civil Service eligibility based on the number of years in the service
- Preference in appointment to any government position
