Its benefit offers and services were crafted for the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their benefits may extend to the family members of these Pinoys working abroad.
The benefit offers of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration or OWWA includes the Death, Burial, and Disability benefits. With regards to the Disability Benefit, it was crafted as a safety net or a suppot for OFWs in case the member suffers from permanent disability.
Under it, the qualified OFW may get up to Php 10,000 provided that the OWWA Disability Benefit requirements were submitted and the application was approved. The amount was designed to help cover the medical expenses of the OFW as well as the other needs in dealing with the disability.
What are the OWWA Disability Benefit requirements? Here are the documents that must be submitted to the nearest branch of OWWA:
- OFW Membership Record (MR) — you can get it from OWWA RWO
- copy of Passport or Seaman’s Identification Record Book (SIRB) of the OFW – Member — you can get it from MARINA
- Foreign Medical Certificate with English Translation — you can get it from OWWA- POLO
- Medical Certificate (with indicated procedure of the medical examination / procedure of the doctor in Philippines) — you can get it from competent medical practitioner from legitimate medical institution / facility
- Accident Report and / or Master’s Report (for seafarer) — you can get it from the employer
- one (1) copy of 1×1 picture of the OFW member
- at least one (1) valid I.D. of authorized claimant
According to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, if claimant is not an OFW, the he/she must submit an Authorization Letter with the I.D. of the OFW. To process the application, visit the OWWA Regional Welfare Office that covers the permanent address of the OFW and submit the OWWA Disability Benefit requirements.
