The situations in the Philippines have yet to return to normal as the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic is still present. The people now are living in the so-called “new normal”. The whole country is still under community quarantine measures.
Previously, following another spike in the total COVID-19 cases in the country, the national government placed the entire Metro Manila and the provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan, and Rizal under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) measure.
The ECQ is the strictest among the four (4) levels of quarantine measures. It is followed by the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), the General Community Quarantine (GCQ), and the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).
Currently, the said areas which is tagged as the NCR Plus are under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened measures. Under the quarantine measures, not all businesses are allowed to operate. Also, there are restrictions with regards to the operational workforce and the capacity.
Following the easing of the quarantine measures, the authorities want to help the businesses regain the trust of the public provided that these businesses pass the health standards.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) inspected two (2) malls and issued “safety seals” for businesses that pass the minimum public health standards.
The said “safety seal” issued by the DTI to businesses that pass the minimum public health standards can accommodate more customers. Based on the report, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez expressed that those with the seal can have an additional 10% point during opening.
Reportedly, crowd control, ventilation, and digital contact tracing are among the criteria in the giving of the “safety seal”. Mall employees are hopeful that it can positively help their businesses.
Meanwhile, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded that it does not mean that businesses will relax with regards to the health standards. Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said that the validity of the seal is for six (6) months only.
