It’s holiday season again and many people start to think about what to prepare for Christmas eve and New Year’s eve. Although big gatherings are still prohibited, households still want to prepare some food that the family will enjoy during the holidays.
Every Christmas, among the common grocery items on the baskets and carts of shoppers in shopping malls are ham, cheese, pasta, cans of fruit cocktails, spaghetti sauce, meat, chicken, packs of cream, etc. Many shoppers are into checking the total expenses while doing the grocery picking.
During the holiday season, there are really instances of a price increase. Most of the time it has something to do with the supply-demand factors. This holiday season, prices of Noche Buena items may increase.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) allows manufacturers to adjust an increase on prices of Noche Buena items. The last price increase on these items was in 2019.
According to Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association President Steven Cua told TeleRadyo that the increase may be between P0.25 up to P2.00 for the big packs. He stressed that the consumers need to plan so the grocery basket would fit the needs of the family.
Several manufacturers of canned tuna, seasoning, pasta, milk, biscuits, and frozen meat already warned of a price increase this November. Based on the report, Cua expressed that the price increase is because of the expenses of the manufacturers like the 13th-month pay of their employees.
The Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association President added that there is currently a high supply of the products because of the low demand amid the pandemic. More updates may be posted soon.
