A lot of businesses in the Philippines were not able to withstand the demands of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amid the strict measures which had to be implemented to prevent the spread of the virus, many businesses were not allowed to operate for several weeks while others were permitted to operate but on a reduced capacity.

Several businesses incurred only losses and expenses with no returns for several weeks – if not months. Such situation left a lot of business owners with no choice but to temporarily or permanently close their businesses.

Meanwhile, the daily COVID-19 cases recorded in the Philippines have dropped and most areas in the country is now under Alert Level 1, the loosest quarantine measure. Despite the drop in the daily record of coronavirus cases, everyone is urged to remain careful as the virus is still existing. The government continues the call for the practice of minimum health protocols.

The call for the practice of minimum health protocols is not only done on a personal basis. The government also wants businesses to really take part in its implementation for the safety of a lot of people while they do business.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the government is adding the Safety Seal Certification as part of the documents needed in applying for a Business Permit. It is also a must in renewing an existing Business Permit.

There are considerations in applying for the seal. Based on the report, the following are the considerations or requirements for the Safety Seal Certification application:

  • All on-site workers of the establishment must be fully-vaccinated against the COVID-19.
  • There must a screening area at the different points of entry to the establishment.
  • There must be hand-washing stations.
  • There must be adequate ventilation in enclosed areas.

Currently, the Safety Seal Certificate is voluntary and serves as a tool in inviting more customers by assuring them of safety inside the establishment. The government is now working on the guidelines to make it officially a part of the requirements in applying for a Business Permit.
