Incoming DAR Secretary Speaks on Possibility of P20 per Kilo Rice Selling in PH
P20 PER KILO RICE – Incoming Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) chief Conrado Estrella III said that rice selling at P20.00 per kilo is not possible in the near future.
Many Filipinos are undeniably hoping that the prices of rice will be pulled down. Several families can hardly eat at least three times a day due to the high prices of basic goods and commodities, not to mention the high costs of oil products, too, now.
Following the victory of president-elect Bongbong Marcos, his aspiration which he mentioned in one of his vlogs for a P20 per kilo rice in the Philippines hooked attention and ignited hopes among the Filipinos. Many people believe that it would really be a big help to several households most especially the poor. However, several authorities also said that it is really hard to make it happen.
Even the incoming secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform, Conrado Estrella III, admitted that the P20 per kilo rice is not possible in the near future.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, incoming DAR secretary Conrado Estrella III said that he has talked with his fellow farmers who told him that the gate price cannot be lower than P10. According to him, the price can only go as far as P14 but it would already be P28 when it arrives to millers and retailers.
The incoming secretary of DAR who was asked by Marcos Jr. to choose between DAR and the Department of Agriculture (DAR) admitted that the P20 per kilo rice is not possible now nor in the near future but he also raised a change saying, “you know how technology is”.
According to Estrella, he chose to lead DAR over DA because he wants to be at the end of issuing titles under the next administration. He also wants to help farmers who are involved in property disputes. He wants to look into the arrest of farmers at Hacienda Tinang in Concepcion, Tarlac.
