Statement of FDA on Lucky Me Products amid Issues in Other Countries

LUCKY ME PRODUCTS – The Food and Drug Agency (FDA) released regarding the issue that the products contain ethylene oxide.

Among the most popular products in the Philippines are the Lucky Me products made by Monde Nissin. Many people love the instant noodles and the pancit canton which comes in different flavors. Many individuals got these food as among in their list of favorites.

Many Filipinos, both young ones and adults, can eat Lucky Me instant noodles and pancit canton at any time of the day. Some of people pair them with bread while others love having them with rice. The former has two (2) main flavors – beef and chicken. Pancit canton comes in original, kalamansi, chilimansi, and extra hot chili flavors.

However, recently, many people were hesitant to eat Lucky Me products after news reports that these products are requested for recall in other countries crossed the surface. Allegedly, there is a high presence of ethylene oxide, a pesticide, in the said products.

The Food and Drugs Agency (FDA) investigated the matter. The agency previously assured that Monde Nissin, the parent company of the products being asked for recall abroad, is compliant with the food safety rules.

Recently, FDA released a statement regarding the Lucky Me products manufactured and distributed in the Philippines. According to the agency, the affected batches of products that were found with ethylene oxide were manufactured in Thailand. They were not made and distributed in the Philippines.

FDA said that the laboratory tests conducted in Vietnam to check the products that were locally manufactured showed that ethylene oxide was not found in Instant Mami Beef Regular and Pancit Canton Regular, Chilimansi, and Extra Hot Chili. The Kalamansi is set for further study after it was found to have a level of ethylene oxide below the standard set by the European Union as an acceptable level.
