Check the Samples on How To Compute Holiday Pay during Regular Holidays
Here is a guide on how to compute the holiday pay for employees reporting to work during regular holidays in the Philippines.
There are at least 10 regular holidays in the Philippines every year. These include the Christmas Day, New Year, Independence Day, and the most important days of the Holy Week. During these days, classes in schools are suspended.
However, with regards to the work suspension on regular holidays, it is usually implemented in the public sector but not the private sector. There are also a lot of essential businesses that have to continue their operation as they cater services to thousands of people daily.
Thus, the employees of these businesses and offices that have to continue operating even during regular holidays have to report to work. Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has set a rule giving these employees additional pay for working on regular holidays.
How to compute your holiday pay during regular holidays? For employees who worked for eight (8) hours during the regular holiday, they are entitled to a double pay.
- Formula — (Basic Wage + cost of living allowance or COLA) x 200%
- Sample — P2,000 x 2 = P4,000
For overtime work during regular holidays, a worker is paid based on her doubled hourly rate for the first eight (8) hours of duty and an additional of 30% of the hourly rate.
- Formula — Hourly Rate x 2 x 1.30 x number of hours worked
- Sample — P120 x 2 x 1.30 x 9 hours = P2,808
If you worked on your rest day which also fell on a regular holiday, you are entitled to another 30% extra pay on top of your double pay in addition to your 200% basic salary on that day.
- Formula — [(Basic Salary + COLA) x 200%] + [30% (Basic Salary x 200%)]
- Sample:
- (Php 900 x 2) + 0.30 (Php 900 x 2)
- Php 1,800] + 0.30 (Php 1,800)
- Php 1,800 + Php 540
- Php 2,340
Employees whose work is cancelled get a holiday rest and a full pay on the said day. Aside from the regular holiday, another type of holiday in the Philippines is the special non-working day. There are several special non-working days in the country these year and DOLE has set a different computation for extra pay for special
