JUNE 17, 2024 HOLIDAY – A Double Pay awaits the employees who have to report to work on Monday amid the Eid’l Adha celebration.

The Philippines is one of the countries across the nation that implement holiday pays. Throughout the year, there are several regular holidays and special non-working days that exempt several employed individuals from work on the said days.

During regular holidays which are usually marked red in the Philippine calendar, the employees get a dayoff from work without salary deduction. In the case of the workers who need to report to duty, they are entitled to a double pay or 100% of their daily rate on top of the salary for the day.

During special non-working days, employees who report to duty are entitled to a 30% holiday pay. There is an easy process on how to compute the holiday pay during special non-working days in the Philippines.

This coming June 17, 2024 is a regular holiday as announced by President Bongbong Marcos Jr. for the Muslim Feast of Sacrifice or also popularly called the Eid’l Adha. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) confirmed that a double pay awaits those who will be reporting to work on Monday.

Based on a report on GMA News Online, DOLE Undersecretary Carmela Torres signed the Labor Advisory No. 08, series of 2024 indicating the holiday pay rules in the Philippines during a regular holiday.

DOLE reiterated in its latest labor advisory that “employer shall pay a total of 200% of the employee’s wage for that day for the first eight hours” in the case of workers who will report to duty this June 17, 2024. In case the employee won’t report to work, he/she is entitled to 100% of the salary rate on that day as long as the employee reports to work or is on a leave of absence with pay on the day preceeding the regular holiday.

In case of overtime work on Monday, an employee will be entitled to an additional 30% of the hourly rate on the said day. In case the rest day of the employee falls on June 17, 2024 but he/she reports to work, “employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the basic wage of 200%”.
