P20 Million Relief Goods to Be Distributed among Victims of Typhoon Odette
P20 MILLION RELIEF – The Filipino-Chinese community raised the amount to be donated in relief goods for the victims of Typhoon Odette.
Typhoon Odette brought heavy rains and strong winds to some areas in the Philippines. It caused the loss of lives and massive damages to properties. Many Filipino families were left homeless by the typhoon.
Some houses were destroyed by the strong winds while others were severely damaged by floodwater. Other houses got destroyed by falling trees due to the strong winds. Many Filipinos are staying in temporary shelters or evacuation centers now.
The country has prepared for Typhoon Odette prior to its entry to the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). However, noted as one of the strongest typhoons in the history of PH, its strength really left marks and brought devastation to several areas in the country.
The different agencies of the government have been directed to extend help to the victims of Typhoon Odette. Public and private entities are also on the move to help the victims recover from the onslaught of the typhoon.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, a P20 million relief was raised by the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. Out of the said total amount, P12 million was raised through the Filipino Chinese Community Calamity Fund while the P8 million was from the Chinese embassy.
The P20 million relief raised by the Filipino-Chinese community will be given to the Typhoon Odette victims in relief goods. FFCCCII President Henry Lim Bon Liong said that aside from the P8 million given by the Chinese Embassy, they also donated 3.2 million kilos of rice for the Odette victims. Its value is around P128 million.
The distribution of the relief packs will be through the local chapters of FFCCCII. Liong is hoping that there will be more donations for the typhoon victims.
