DOLE Says P5,000 Cash Aid for Formal Sector Workers To Be Released
CASH AID – The formal sector workers in NCR will receive one-time cash assistance under the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program.
The National Capital Region (NCR) is back under Alert Level 3. The tightening of the restrictions is due to the increasing cases of COVID-19 in several cities in Metro Manila. The spike in the cases is undeniably expected following the holiday season.
Many Filipinos went out on a holiday rush to buy food and gifts. The kids were also allowed to go out after more than a year of prohibiting them from shopping malls and other public vicinities. Amid the constant reminders of the authorities that the threats of COVID-19 is still present, the holiday rush seemed inevitable.
The authorities placed the entire Metro Manila under Alert Level 3 to prevent the further spread of the COVID-19. The said move also has its own setbacks but the health and safety of the people need to be prioritized.
Amid the Metro Manila being under Alert Level 3, many workers may temporarily lose their jobs as some businesses will have to face operation limits. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez said that around 200,000 may lose their job amid stricter measures.
Meanwhile, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III assured that cash aid and other assistance will be extended to the workers. According to the report, employees of the formal sector in NCR may receive one-time cash assistance of P5,000.00 under the COVID-19 Adjustment Measures Program. As of this writing, there are still no further details yet about it.
Metro Manila is set under Alert Level 3 from January 3 to January 15, 2022. Lopez stressed that the important thing in implementing stricter measures in the country is preventing the possible spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Currently, the Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed four (4) cases of the said variant from travelers abroad.
