Update on Minimum Wage of Workers in Western Visayas
MINIMUM WAGE OF WORKERS – The Western Visayas RTWPB raised the daily minimum salary of workers by Php 55.00 to Php 110.00.
Many Filipinos are employees in the private sector. They are working in private offices, establishments, or companies to earn and provide for the needs of their family. Although they are working for private individuals or companies, they are also protected by several labor laws set by the government.
Most private companies also have to abide by the rule of not going below the minimum wage set for workers. The salary ceiling limits may vary from one region to another. Also, there might be exemptions depending on the rules set by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards or more commonly called RTWPB and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
A few days ago, DOLE announced an increase of the minimum wage for workers in the National Capital Region. Based on a report on Inquirer, Western Visayas RTWPB also implemented a salary hike.
According to the report, the minimum wage increase for workers in Western Visayas increased by Php 55.00 to Php 110.00. It covers private establishments with more than 10 employees. Prior to the increase, the minimum daily salary was set at Php 395.00.
Reportedly, with regards to workers in establishments with 10 workers and below, the minimum daily salary is increased from Php 310.00 to Php 420.00. For agricultural workers in Western Visayas, their daily pay rose from Php 315.00 to Php 410.00.
For kasambahays or domestic workers, from the current Php 4,000.00 minimum monthly salary, the wage is increased to Php 4,500.00. Currently, the increases are under review by the NWPC which has 10 days to check on National Wage and Productivity Commission (NWPC).
