DOLE To Give P5,000 Cash Aid for Workers who lost jobs under Alert Level 3

DOLE Speaks on Assistance for Displaced Formal Workers

DOLE – The Department of Labor and Employment vowed to give P5,000.00 cash aid for the displaced workers in the formal sector under the Alert Level 3.

The Metro Manila is back under Alert Level 3 as the COVID-19 cases in several cities in the capital region are on an upward trend again. Some authorities anticipated the increase in the cases following the holiday season – many people went out to buy food and gifts for Christmas and New Year celebrations. The restrictions on minors were also loosened.

Currently, stricter curbs are up once again in Metro Manila. The mayors of the different cities in the capital region also agreed to temporarily put a limit on the mobility of the unvaccinated individuals. The said move gained praise from some key officials who proposed for its nationwide adoption.

Amid the implementation of Alert Level 3 in Metro Manila, a lot of workers lost their jobs or source of income. Some government agencies assured that they will provide assistance to those who will temporarily lose their source of income.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) assured that they will extend cash assistance to displaced workers in the formal sector. According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, they will give P5,000.00 cash aid to those who lost their job and their source of income.

According to Bello, the employers just need to submit to DOLE a list of the names of those in their payroll who lost their job under the Alert Level 3. The workers may also directly apply for the said assistance to the government agency.

Some workers claim that P5,000.00 is not enough. The Labor Secretary expressed that he also finds it small but it is what their department can afford to extend to those who lost their jobs amid the Alert Level 3.
