PhilHealth Interest Waiver Up for Members Who Missed To Pay 2013 to 2024 Contributions

Marcos Jr. Announced the One-Time PhilHealth Interest Waiver for Members

PHILHEALTH INTEREST – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered a one-time waiver of interest on the missed contributions from 2013 to 2024.

Millions of Filipinos in the Philippines rely to the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. as their health insurer. Undeniably, the state-run health insurer offers a safety net with premiums that are lower than the premiums under most of the private health insurance policies.

PhilHealth offers several medical benefits for members in both emergency and non-emergency cases. However, due to the high cost of living in the Philippines now and many people living in poverty, there are a lot of members who missed to pay their monthly premiums and it incurred PhilHealth interest.

Meanwhile, recently, Pres. Bongbong Marcos announced a good news for PhilHealth members who missed to keep their accounts updated but wants to take an effort to update it without having to pay for the penalties. The President announced a “General Amnesty”.

According to Pres. Bongbong Marcos, he has ordered the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. to implement a one-time waiver of the PhilHealth interest that were set for the unpaid members’ contributions from July 2013 to December 2024. According to him, the general amnesty covers not only employers and the employed members of the state health insurer but as well as the self-employed members.

”Sa aming patuloy na tumulong sa ating mga kababayan, lalong-lalo na sa tinatawag nating healthcare, eh inutusan ko po ang PhilHealth na magpatupad ng general amnesty para sa mga negosyante, private employer, mga self-employed na ating mga kababayan na hindi nabayaran ang kontribusyon sa PhilHealth,” the President said.

According to Pres. Bongbong Marcos, the government is aware that the 3% contribution to PhilHealth has been felt by the Filipino people. Through a video message, he expressed that the move aims to help around 300,000 emoployers.

Aside from the PhilHealth interest waiver, Pres. Bongbong Marcos also urged the employers to include their workers to the Yaman ng Kalusugan or YAKAP Program. Through it, the employees can avail the benefits provided by PhilHealth which include comprehensive primary and outpatient care.

The YAKAP is an expansion of the Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama (Konsulta) which aims to provide primary and outpatient care initiatives including check-ups, medicines, and basic laboratory tests. Cancer screening may also be available in selected hospitals.

“Ito po ay aking ginagawa upang pagaangin ang tala ng ating mga kababayan tungkol sa mga healthcare cost at iba-ibang hamon na hinaharap ng ating mga kababayan araw-araw,” the President said.
