PHILHEALTH CONTRIBUTION RATE INCREASE – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation is set to implement a contribution hike in June.
A lot of Filipinos are members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or more commonly called PhilHealth. It is a state-run insurance agency that is the turn-to of most Pinoys in times of hospitalization including instances of childbirth and medical operations. It has become the turn-to of a lot of individuals amid the COVID-19 crisis. It also offered a package for those who are under home isolation.
Every month, a member of PhilHealth contributes a certain amount to his or her registration and it qualifies her for the benefits offered by the agency. Members also have the option should they wish to pay the contribution in quarterly mode.
In the case of employed members of PhilHealth, the contribution is usually under a salary deduction basis. The company or the government agency is the one that remits the contribution to the state-run institution.
Under the Universal Healthcare Act, a PhilHealth contribution rate increase is mandated at 0.5% until it reaches 5% in 2025. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic that left a lot of the PhilHealth members financially struggling, the hike that was set for 2021 was postponed.
It was also during the said year when PhilHealth was facing a lot of corruption issues. Some P15-billion funds reportedly went missing. The state-run agency denied it.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, a PhilHealth contribution rate increase is set this June. From the current 3% of a member’s monthly salary, the contribution will be raised to 4%. For example, if you are earning Php 15,000.00 a month, your current contribution is Php 450.00. When June comes, it will increase to Php 600.00.
