Guide on DOST Scholarships for Graduate Studies in Engineering Fields
DOST SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRADUATE STUDIES – The Department of Science and Technology offers scholarships for engineering programs.
A huge part of the professionals in the Philippines are engineers in the different fields. There are civil engineers, chemical engineers, electrical engineers, and geodetic engineers, among others.
Just like teachers, engineers are among those who can take master’s and doctoral programs. Being a graduate of the two (2) increase the chance of promotions and bigger salaries. However, truth be told that due to the high inflation rate now and the debts incurred before some engineers have graduated, many cannot prioritize to finance their studies.
Meanwhile, the good news is that there are scholarship offers for engineers who want to push through with their MS and PhD studies. One of the scholarship providers is the Department of Science and Technology or more popularly called DOST.
The DOST launched the Engineering Research and Development for Technology or also called ERDT. It provides scholarships for the following programs in the engineering field:
- MS Program
- Ph.D. Program
- BS-MS Straight Program
- MEng Program
- Straight Ph.D. Program
The ERDT offers scholarships for the master’s and doctoral degrees in various engineering fields in eight universities in the country such as the following:
- Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU)
- Central Luzon State University (CLSU)
- De La Salle University (DLSU)
- Mapua University (MU)
- Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT)
- University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD)
- University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB)
- University of San Carlos (USC).
The Department of Science and Technology extends different DOST scholarship benefits and allowances for the scholars under the ERDT. They differ depending if the scholar will be taking a Master’s degree program or a PhD.
Through the Engineering Research and Development for Technology, the Department of Science and Technology aims to “implement high-impact research agenda that are aligned with the development plans” of the country.
It is also the government agency’s way of contributing in boosting the graduates of engineering master’s and doctorate degrees upgrade the qualifications of practicing engineers.
Through the ERDT, the DOST also aims to enhance the “quality of engineering colleges and make engineering graduate education accessible” as well as “help in developing a culture of research and development” in the country.
