Are you one of the members of the Social Security System? More popularly called SSS, it is a social insurance giant that widens the financial resources of its members. Thus, most employers and companies in the private sector really mandate their employees to have an SSS membership.

The Social Security System is operating in the Philippines for decades already since 1957. Through the years, it has continuously upgraded the features of its offers. It got different loans for the SSS members as well as benefit offers. It is an edge if you are a private employee with an active SSS membership as you have something to turn to in times of sickness.

Getting sick is something that is inevitable. Most people are under the weather for at least once year. During this time, there are cases when you can’t report to work. Thus, if you are an SSS member, you don’t have to worry much about your budget falling short for the expenses due to the absences from work.
The Social Security System has the SSS Sickness Benefit offer for its members. Under the benefit offer, a member who is qualified for the benefit offer may get a daily cash allowance paid for the number of days that he/she was not able to report to work due to sickness. This benefit offer is also open for injury cases.

The SSS Sickness Benefit amount may vary on a case-to-case basis but the social insurance giant has provided a computation for it. A sick member of the Social Security System may avail up to 120 days of sickness benefit annually. Unused portions can be carried to the next year. However, the benefit offer shall not be paid for over 240 days on an account of the same illness,
The Sickness Benefit requires the member to have paid at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12-month period immediately preceding the semester of sickness or injury to be eligible for the offer. If working, the member must have notified his/her employer about the sickness.
