SSS DEATH BENEFIT REQUIREMENTS 2025 – For primary beneficiaries, here are the documents that must be submitted to the Social Security System.
There is a huge advantage in being a member of the social insurance giants in the Philippines with an updated account. They got benefit offers as well as loans that you can turn to in times of financial needs. In fact, their benefit offers may go beyond your living years.

In the Philippines, one of the social insurance giants is the Social Security System. It has several benefit offers for its members who regularly post monthly contributions. Aside from the SSS Sickness Benefit offer, the social insurance giant also has the SSS Death Benefit offer.

The SSS Death Benefit is either a monthly pension or a lump sum released to the beneficiaries of a deceased member of the Social Security System. The social insurance giant gives priority to the primary beneficiaries of a member who is the dependent spouse, until he/she remarries, and the dependent legitimate, legitimated, or legally adopted, and illegitimate children of the deceased member.

There is a unique set of SSS Death Benefit requirements that primary beneficiaries must submit in filing for a claim. Here are the documents that you need to prepare:
- Death Claim Application Form/Death Claim Application under Portability Law
- Death Certificate of deceased member duly registered with the Local Civil Registry (LCR) or issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), if without settled funeral benefit
- Member’s/Claimant’s Photo and Signature Card, if claimant has not been issued a UMID card
- UMID card enrolled as ATM or disbursement account from Philippine Electronic Fund Transfer System and Operations Network (PESONet) participating banks/disbursement channels of the following:
- validated initial deposit slip
- Passbook
- ATM card with name of claimant and account number
- UBP Quick Card
- duly-signed Bank Certificate/Statement issued within three (3) months prior to filing of claim with the following information:
- complete name of claimant
- Savings account number
- Bank branch
- Complete bank address
- E-Wallet such as PayMaya, screenshot of the mobile app containing the full name and mobile/account number
- RTCs/CPOs such as MLhuillier, mobile/account number
- claimant’s ID cards/documents with photo, signature and underwent biometric data capture process, any of the following:
- UMID card
- Driver’s License
- SS ID card
- Voter’s ID card
- National Bureau of Investigation
- Alien Certificate of Registration
- Postal Identity card
- (NBI) Clearance
- Permit to carry firearms outside of residence
- Seafarer’s Identification and Record Book (Seaman’s Book)
According to the Social Security System, if the SSS member died abroad, a “Death Certificate of deceased member issued by the Vital Statistics Office/County of Host Country or its equivalent or Report of Death issued by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate General” is part of the SSS Death Benefit requirements that must be submitted.
In case the dependent legal spouse and dependent children is/are not reported in the Personal Record of the deceased member, the following documents must be included in the list of the SSS Death Benefit requirements to be submitted:
- Marriage certificate of deceased member duly registered with the LCR or issued by the PSA
- Birth certificate of dependent child/ren duly registered with the LCR or issued by the PSA
According to SSS, in case the legal spouse and the deceased member were married abroad, a “Marriage Certificate with English translation issued by foreign government or Report of Marriage issued by the Philippine Embassy or Consulate General” is required.
In case the dependent-claimant was born abroad, the SSS Death Benefit requirements must include his/her “Birth Certificate issued by foreign government or Report of Birth issued by Philippine Embassy or Consulate General”.
If the deceased member has no spouse or children, the secondary beneficiaries may submit the specified requirements to process the SSS Death Benefit claim.
