Guide on December 8 Holiday Pay for the Working Individuals
DECEMBER 8 HOLIDAY PAY – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) issued guidelines for the holiday pay on the Feast of the Immaculate Concepcion of Mary which is a special non-working day.
Many Filipinos are excited not only for the holidays but as well as the long weekends this 2025. Surely, even if it is the last month of the year already, a lot of people want to know if there are still extended weekends left — a yes, there is! The next holiday falls on a Monday.

Every December 8, Catholics celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Concepcion of Mary. This year, it falls on a Monday which paves the way for a long weekend. The upcoming holiday is a special non-working day in the Philippines.

While the government agencies cancel work during a special non-working day, most companies and private establishments continue their operation. With the upcoming Monday being a special non-working day for the celebration of the Feast of the Immaculate Concepcion of Mary, there is a December 8 holiday pay for those who will report to work.

Recently, the Department of Labor and Employment or DOLE issued guidelines on the December 8 holiday pay for those who will be reporting to work during the Feast of the Immaculate Concepcion of Mary which is a special non-working day.
Based on a report of GMA News, in its advisory, the labor department stated that workers who will report to work on Monday are entitled for a December 8 holiday pay under the following guidelines:
- Employees who work or report to duty on special non-working day are entitled to receive a December 8 holiday pay that is equivalent to 30% of their basic daily salary for the first 8 hours of duty. This pay is on top of the worker’s salary for the day.
- The “no work, no pay” rule applies during a special non-working day. Thus, those who don’t report to work won’t be paid unless there is an internal arrangement in the company or office.
- Employees who work overtime on a special non-working day are entitled to receive an additional 30% of the hourly rate as part of the December 8 holiday pay.
- In case December 8 is also the rest day of the employee and he/she reports to work, the employer or company is mandated to pay the worker an additional pay that is equivalent to 50% or half of the basic wage for the first 8 hours of duty.
- In case the employee works overtime on a special non-working day that is supposedly his/her rest day, he/she is entitled to receive an additional pay that is equivalent to 30% of the hourly rate on the said day.
