If you already remit Pag-IBIG every payday and still want a place for extra savings that is not a bank time deposit, Modified Pag-IBIG II (MP2) is the Fund’s voluntary savings program. You start from as little as ₱500, lock in a five-year term, and earn dividends that historically sit above regular Pag-IBIG membership savings — though the exact rate is declared each year and is never guaranteed.
This guide covers eligibility, dividends (including the 7.12% rate declared for 2025), annual vs compounded payout, Virtual Pag-IBIG enrollment, payment channels, maturity, and pre-termination. Figures come from Pag-IBIG’s official terms and recent public announcements — re-check before you remittance.
What is Pag-IBIG MP2?
MP2 is a voluntary savings scheme under the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG Fund). It is separate from your mandatory Pag-IBIG I membership savings. You open an MP2 account, remittance money when you can (minimum ₱500 per payment), and the Fund credits dividends based on rates approved by its Board of Trustees after each year’s net income is computed.
Key program rules from Pag-IBIG’s MP2 Terms and Conditions:
- Minimum savings: ₱500 per transaction, recorded as of the payment date.
- Membership term: five (5) years, counted from your first MP2 payment.
- Dividend choice: annual dividend payout, or compounded dividend earnings.
- Purpose: savings only — enrolling in MP2 is not a loan application.
You may open more than one MP2 account if each is separately registered and funded. Pag-IBIG materials also cite a per-member remittance ceiling across accounts — confirm the current cap on the Fund’s site before large deposits.
Who can open an MP2 account?
Per the same official terms, MP2 is voluntary for:
- All active Pag-IBIG I members, regardless of monthly income.
- Former Pag-IBIG I members with another source of monthly income, and pensioners (regardless of age) who had at least 24 monthly savings before retirement.
- Former natural-born Filipinos who reacquired Filipino citizenship under Republic Act No. 9225.
If you do not have a Pag-IBIG Membership ID (MID) yet, register for membership first on Virtual Pag-IBIG before enrolling in MP2.
2025 dividend rates — and why past rates are not a promise
On 27 February 2026, Pag-IBIG announced dividends for calendar year 2025: about ₱64.34 billion in total dividends, with a 6.62% rate for regular membership savings and 7.12% for MP2. Coverage from GMA News and the Philippine Information Agency reported those figures after the Chairman’s Report 2025.
Treat 7.12% as last year’s declared rate, not a locked coupon for the next five years. Pag-IBIG’s terms say MP2 earns flexible dividend rates higher than Pag-IBIG I, declared after net income is approved. Rates can move up or down. If you claim matured MP2 before the prior year’s rate is declared, the latest available rate applies.
Fund-linked materials note that MP2 dividend earnings are not subject to the usual 20% final withholding tax on many bank deposit interest payments. Tax rules can change — verify with Pag-IBIG or a tax professional for your case.
Annual payout vs compounded dividends
When you enroll, you choose how dividends are handled:
- Annual payout: dividends are paid out to you each year (useful if you want a yearly “bonus” from savings).
- Compounded: dividends stay in the account so they can earn on top of prior dividends until maturity.
Compounding usually grows the balance more over five years if you do not need the cash yearly. Annual payout suits households that want the dividend for tuition, Christmas, or emergency buffers. You cannot assume either option will match last year’s 7.12% every year — run your own peso scenarios with a conservative rate and a stretch rate.
How to start MP2 online (step by step)
Most local members enroll through Virtual Pag-IBIG:
- Go to the MP2 Enrollment page.
- Choose your membership classification (Active, Pensioner, Former Natural-Born Filipino who reacquired citizenship, or Others as listed).
- Validate your Pag-IBIG MID, name, and birthdate.
- Set your intended savings amount (at least ₱500), payment mode preference, and dividend option (annual or compounded).
- Submit the enrollment. You should receive a 12-digit MP2 account number — save it.
- Make your first remittance. The account becomes active only after the first payment posts.
Keep a screenshot or note of the MP2 number. You will need it for online payments and for maturity claims later.
Where and how to pay MP2
Payment options commonly available (confirm the live list on Virtual Pag-IBIG before you pay):
- Online via Virtual Pag-IBIG: GCash, Maya, or Visa / Mastercard / JCB debit or credit card.
- Salary deduction: if your employer remits MP2 for you.
- Over-the-counter: Pag-IBIG branches and authorized collecting partners (banks, Bayad, SM Business Centers, M. Lhuillier, and other listed merchants — the partner list changes, so check Pag-IBIG’s latest notice).
Convenience fees may apply on some e-wallet or card rails — read the amount due screen before you confirm. Partner lists change, so use Virtual Pag-IBIG’s live payment page as the source of truth.
Larger remittances have extra paperwork under the terms:
- Payments over ₱100,000 may require proof of income or source of funds.
- One-time savings over ₱500,000 must be paid by personal or manager’s check.
You do not have to remittance every month. Many savers send ₱500–₱2,000 when cash flow allows, or park a 13th-month bonus lump sum. Consistency helps more than copying someone else’s monthly target.
Maturity, claiming, and what if you do nothing
After five years from your first payment, the MP2 account matures. To claim, use Virtual Pag-IBIG’s Claim Savings flow and choose MP2 Savings Maturity. Pag-IBIG’s claim reminder typically asks for a signed Claim Application Form, one valid ID, your Loyalty Card Plus (cash card), and a selfie showing the ID and card — prepare clear photos before you start the online claim.
Important maturity rules from the terms:
- If you want another five-year MP2 cycle, open a new MP2 account (and follow any rollover option Pag-IBIG offers at the time).
- If you do not withdraw at maturity, the balance stops earning MP2 dividend rates. For the next two years it follows rates declared for Pag-IBIG I, then the account may be reclassified as accounts payable. Do not leave matured money unclaimed out of habit.
Can you withdraw MP2 early?
Pre-termination before five years is allowed only in listed situations — for example total disability or insanity, death of the member or an immediate family member, retirement, permanent departure from the country, certain critical illnesses, OFW repatriation, and other meritorious grounds the Board may approve. Some grounds apply only in specific membership contexts — read the current T&Cs carefully.
If you pre-terminate for a reason outside those allowed grounds, Pag-IBIG’s terms provide that you are entitled to only 50% of total dividends earned as a pre-termination consequence (with related adjustments if you already received annual payouts). Treat MP2 as medium-term money you can leave alone for five years, not as an emergency fund. Keep a separate GCash/Maya or bank buffer for short-term shocks.
Practical tips for Filipino savers
- Fund emergency cash first. MP2 locks value for five years (except narrow pre-termination cases). Build 3–6 months of essentials elsewhere before parking large amounts in MP2.
- Start small and automatic. ₱500 after every sweldo beats waiting for a perfect ₱10,000 lump sum.
- Use bonuses intentionally. 13th-month pay, mid-year bonus, or OFW padala leftovers are common MP2 top-ups.
- Compare, don’t worship rates. Weigh MP2 against PDIC-insured digital savings and time deposits using liquidity and fees — not last year’s headline alone. See MP2 vs. time deposit.
- Keep records. Save your MID, MP2 number, payment receipts, and Virtual Pag-IBIG screenshots in one folder.
- Update contact details. Wrong mobile or email makes claim and dividend notices harder.
Quick checklist before you enroll
- Confirm you are eligible (active Pag-IBIG I or other allowed class).
- Get or verify your MID on Virtual Pag-IBIG.
- Decide annual vs compounded dividends.
- Enroll and note your 12-digit MP2 account number.
- Pay at least ₱500 to activate the account.
- Set a reminder for the five-year maturity date so you claim or roll over on time.
MP2 will not replace an emergency fund or a housing plan — it is one government savings tool with a five-year horizon and year-by-year dividends. Used that way, it can be a calm peso parking spot for members who want voluntary savings beyond the mandatory cut.
