DA Speaks on Indemnification for ASF-Hit Hograisers

DA – The Department of Agriculture revealed the amount of the indemnification fund for the hograisers hit by the African Swine Fever (ASF).

The Philippines is currently dealing multiple challenges. One of these is the African Swine Fever (ASF) which was detected in 473 municipalities in the Philippines.

The ASF did not only affected the said communities where it was detected nor the hograisers owning the pigs but the Filipino consumers. Based on an a recent Executive Order of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the swine inventory in the Philippines is down by three (3) million heads.

Pres. Duterte, in the pursuit to address the needs of the consumers, released an order increasing the minimum access volume for pork imports in the Philippines. From 54,210 MT, the MAV for pork imports is raised to 254,210 MT.

Pres. Duterte wants to address the demands of the consumers and to lower the inflation in the country. According to him, the Congress has not acted on his previous request to increase the MAV. The Chief Executive also declared a State of Calamity in the Philippines due to the ASF outbreak.

Recently, the Department of Agriculture (DA) spoke on the indemnification or the compensation for the hograisers affected by the ASF outbreak. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, hograisers will receive Php 10,000.00 per head of culled pork due to ASF.

DA Secretary William Dar expressed that the producers of pork will receive 100% of the compensation. Initially, only Php 5,000.00 was allocated and it was increased.

Based on the report, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) will be the one that will give out the fund. Dar expressed on ANC’s Headstart that the backyard hograiser is free from paying premiums. With regards to the commercial hograisers, they need to pay a premium of Php 225.00 per head and 22% of it will be under the subsidy of DA.

For the insured hograisers, they will receive Php 10,000.00 per head for the fatteners and Php 14,500.00 for the breeders. The parental stocks is at Php 34,000.00 per head.
