Many Filipinos are members of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, a state-run health insurance agency. It is the turn-to of most Filipinos during medical emergencies. It assists members in paying for their hospitalization, surgery, childbirth, and other medical purposes.
To keep an active account, every month, a PhilHealth member submits a certain amount to the government agency as a contribution. The contribution amount is not the same for all members as it depends on the monthly salary of the member.
PhilHealth is open to all employed and self-employed Filipinos. Whether you are working in the government or in the private sector, you may apply for membership.
The PhilHealth Monthly Contribution Rate is currently at 3%. Supposedly, it was set to increase by 0.5% last year but the increase was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The crisis it caused in the Philippines affected a lot of Filipino households.
Many Filipinos lost their jobs amid the COVID-19 crisis. Some of them are the sole breadwinners in their families.
In compliance with the mandate under the Universal Healthcare Act, the government agency is set to implement the increase in the PhilHealth monthly contribution rate this June. From the current rate of 3% of the member’s salary, it will increase to 4% in June.
The PhilHealth monthly contribution rate will still depend on the salary of the member. According to PhilHealth, for members who are earning Php 10,000.00 and below every month, the monthly premium will be Php 400.00.
The new rate is effective in the Electronic Premium Remittance System (EPRS) and the PhilHealth Member Portal starting June 2022.
