DTI Speaks on SRP of School Supplies ahead of Class Opening
DTI – The Department of Trade and Industry is planning to issue a suggested retail price (SRP) on school supplies.
Currently, many people are already preparing for the opening of another school year next month. The Department of Education (DepEd) set the start of classes on August 22. Many teachers and school administrative staff now are starting to prepare for the enrollment of the students and other educational stuff that need to be addressed prior to the class opening.
In the case of the students, they are now enjoying the last few weeks of their vacation from school. DepEd has already announced the planned implementation of the face-to-face classes in phases with the target of achieving full face-to-face classes in the country by November.
On the part of the parents, many are now preparing for the needs of students when they are back at school – the school uniforms, black shoes, notebooks, pens and pencils, bond papers, etc. Many households now are undeniably financially burdened and have yet to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.
Amid the approaching date of the class opening in elementary and secondary schools, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is planning to release suggested retail prices (SRPs) on school supplies. It can be the basis of the parents in buying the needs of their children for school.
However, the DTI also clarified that they cannot regulate the prices of school supplies as these things are not included in those considered basic goods. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the agency only releases SRPs for basic goods like rice, sugar, and canned goods.
Meanwhile, speaking to PTV4, Trade Secretary Ruth Castelo expressed the possibility that DTI will release SRPs on school supplies. According to her, the public may know if they will release the “bulletin for balik eskuwela products”.
