ADB Supports PH Government’s Fight vs Pandemic
ADB – The Asian Development Bank approved the $250 million loan of the Philippine government to boost the COVID-19 vaccine supply in the Philippines.
Countries across the globe are still in a race in pursuit to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This coronavirus that was first recorded in China as per reports spread fast and rocked the healthcare systems of the different nations.
It is more than a year now since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. It scattered among nations fast and the people had to wait for months for the development of vaccines against the virus.
Different countries and companies developed vaccines against the COVID-19. Some of these are Sinovac, Pfizer, Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Sputnik Lite, Moderna, and Janssen.
Different vaccine brands are in the Philippines now. Some of them were donated by other countries and entities while others were procured by the national government. Around two (2) million Sinovac vaccines are expected by the PH government to arrive from China this week.
Recently, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a loan by the Philippine government to obtain some funds for the fight against COVID-19 spread. The government wants to use the money for the vaccines.
According to the report, ADB approved the $250 million to boost the supply of vaccines in the country. The bank stressed that it is one with the government in protecting the people and saving lives from COVID-19.
In the Philippines, a 3-day vaccination drive was previously held from November 29 to December 1, 2021. It was extended in other areas until December 3, 2021. Currently, another 3-day vaccination drive from December 15 to December 17 is set to take place nationwide. The government targets to vaccinate at least 7 million people.
