SMALL BUSINESSES IN PH – Some business owners in the Philippines worry over the possible return of stricter quarantine measures.
The economy of the Philippines suffered a lot amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The community quarantine measures halted major operations of some businesses and even essential firms have to make adjustments. These are in cooperation with the fight against the spread of the virus.
The strict community quarantine measures called for the suspension of some business operations not only for days but for weeks. The new normal has also trained a lot of people to only go out for essential purposes thus some businesses that do not offer essential services could hardly thrive despite being allowed to operate.
Many small businesses in the country had no choice but to temporarily or permanently close amid strict community quarantine measures. Most of these are those that rely on daily profits to continue.
The daily record of the new COVID-19 cases in the country dropped and community quarantine measures were eased. However, there is a new threat now – the Omicron which was identified as a “highly mutated” variant of COVID-19. Owners and employees of small businesses in the country are appealing to the government not to allow Omicron to reach the Philippines. Based on the report, The Presidential adviser for entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion believes that the COVID-19 vaccines can prevent severe cases.
