Update on Price of Egg amid Rising Costs in Production
PRICE OF EGG – The Agricultural Sector Alliance of the Philippines Inc. warned that the egg prices may reach up to P15 in the next weeks.
One of the staple breakfast foods in the Philippines is egg. Truth be told that it is a favorite of many people. It can be cooked in a variety of ways – scrambled, sunny-side-up, omelet, or boiled. Usually, Filipinos pair it with either pandesal or rice for breakfast.
There are also individuals who purchase trays and trays of eggs every week not just for breakfast but for baking purposes. Egg is one of the basic ingredients in baking bread and other dessert foods like cakes, muffins, and a lot more.
The bakers and the ordinary household are among those who are instantly affected by any increase in the price of egg. However, recently, an agricultural group warned the possibility of a huge increase on egg prices.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Agricultural Sector Alliance of the Philippines Inc. warned that egg prices may reach P10 to P15 each in the next weeks due to the rising costs of production. AGAP Party-List Representative Nicanor Briones stressed that the cost of feeds.
Briones also cited that due to the previous oversupply of eggs that led to several farm owners stopping their production due to the losses, there is now a shortage in egg production. The agri group also cited bird flu as another reason behind the possible increase in the price of egg.
In the previous month, the farm-gate price of eggs is at P4 each. Currently, it is at P6 each. Some retailers have already increased their prices citing the rising costs for production and the limited supply of eggs now.
