Government to Give Cash for Typhoon Odette Victims to Help them Recover
CASH AID FOR TYPHOON ODETTE VICTIMS – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) gave an update on its release.
Typhoon Odette left several areas in the country devastated. A lot of families lost their homes and their source of living. Currently, some are staying in temporary shelters provided by the government and many are in the evacuation centers.
Odette was the strongest typhoon to have hit the Philippines in 2021. It brought strong winds and heavy rains that damaged several houses in the Central and Southern parts of the country. Some houses and properties were destroyed by the falling trees.
Public and private entities moved to help the victims of Typhoon Odette who are now in great need of assistance to recover. The government vowed to give cash aid to the typhoon victims.
Recently, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) gave an update on the release of the cash aid for the Typhoon Odette victims. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the distribution of cash assistance is expected to start today, January 5, 2022.
Interior Secretary Eduardo Año expressed that the P4.85 billion budget for the cash aid for the Typhoon Odette victims was released last January 3, 2022 to the local government units of 420 towns and cities hit by the calamity. Based on the report, the cash assistance is expected to be released by the LGUs after finishing the list of the beneficiaries.
According to Año, the local governments have started drafting the list of beneficiaries before the fund was even released to them. Each person will get P1,000.00 but there is a P5,000.00 limit for every family.
Aside from the government and the private entities, several foreign governments also pledged to send relief assistance to the Philippines for the typhoon victims.
