Update on Fuel Subsidy for Delivery Riders, Taxi Drivers & Other PUV Drivers
FUEL SUBSIDY – The fuel subsidies for delivery riders dropped from the initial amount of Php 6,500.00 as the number of beneficiaries increased.
Public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers are among those who are most affected by the series of oil price hikes. Amid the high prices of fuel, many of them claimed that they can hardly bring home an amount that can provide for the needs in their households.
Some PUV drivers are the sole earners in their families. They stressed that the high prices of fuel per liter made a huge cut from the amount that they usually brought home before. However, their usual expenses at home are either the same or have gone higher.
To help the PUV drivers cope with the series of oil price hikes that started in January 2022, the national government released a fuel subsidy. The beneficiaries include drivers of jeepneys, buses, taxis, tricycles, and delivery riders.
However, based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, the fuel subsidy for the delivery riders that was initially at Php 6,500.00 just like the subsidy for the drivers of jeepneys, buses, and taxis dropped. It is due to the increase in the number of beneficiaries.
According to the report, the number of beneficiaries has reached more than 27,000. The adjustment moved the fuel subsidy amount from Php 6,500.00 to Php 4,500.00 each. Unfortunately, some delivery riders seem to be losing hope regarding the matter as they have yet to receive their subsidies until now.
In the case of taxi riders, some of them have already received their fuel subsidies while others have yet to receive theirs. They are on a tight budget amid the high prices of fuel now. The delay in the distribution of the fuel subsidies may also make tricycle drivers wait a little longer.
