DOLE Confirms Minimum Wage Increase for NCR Workers
DOLE – The Department of Labor and Employment announced the increase of the minimum wage for workers in the National Capital Region (NCR).
There are a lot of employees in the Philippines. Some are working in the public sector or the different government agencies while others are working in the private sector. In most cases, the salary depends on the position of a worker.
However, truth be told that there are a lot of Filipinos who receive the minimum wage. Many of these people are going through financial struggles most especially those who are the sole breadwinners of their families and when the prices of goods and commodities increase.
A few weeks ago, there were petitions seeking an increase in the minimum wage but those were junked as the body where the petitions were addressed has no jurisdiction over increasing the minimum wage. Meanwhile, a good news for the NCR workers recently crossed the surface.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) confirmed that an increase in the minimum wage for workers in the National Capital Region (NCR) got the green signal from the Wage Board.
According to DOLE, a P33.00 increase was approved by the Wage Board. The increase brings the minimum wage for workers in the non-agriculture sector to Php 570.00 and the minimum wage for workers in the agriculture sector to Php 533.00.
The increase can surely help a lot of workers cope with the increasing prices of goods and commodities. Recently, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) approved an increase in the prices of basic goods and commodities including sardines, noodles, and detergents.
According to DTI, the matter was thoroughly studied and they granted the go signal for a price increase as the prices of the raw materials used in producing these basic goods and commodities have increased, too. The department stressed that businesses may close and the workforce will be wiped out if they continue with losses.
