SSS MATERNITY BENEFIT – Here is a guide on how many pregnancies may be covered under the Social Security System benefit offer.
In the Philippines, one of the entities that provide exclusive offers for its members is the Social Security System, a state-run social insurance institution. Most of the people working in the private sector are members of the said institution as an SSS membership is mandated by a lot of companies and businesses.
Members of the Social Security System who maintain an updated list of SSS contribution posted in their account may qualify to the SSS loans and benefits offered by the state-run social insurance giant. One of the SSS benefits is the Maternity Benefit.
Through the SSS Maternity Benefit, the Social Security System wants to help their female members with qualified accounts in times of pregnancy. It is open for female members who meet the following eligibility criteria under the offer:
- posted at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12-month period immediately before the semester of childbirth or emergency termination of pregnancy
- must have processed a pregnancy notification
- If employed, the pregnant member must have notified the employer about the pregnancy;
- If self-employed, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), or have been separated from employment, the member must have directly notified the SSS.
The SSS Maternity Benefit amount may vary depending on the case of pregnancy of the member. A 60-day Maternity Leave is allowed for cases of miscarriage/emergency termination of pregnancy, 105-day Maternity Leave for cases of live childbirth, and up to a 120-day Maternity Leave for solo parents.
