TIN REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYEES – Here is a guide on the documents required by the Bureau of Internal Revenue for Tax Identification Number application.
In the Philippines, one of documents that is usually requested in performing a lot of transactions is the Tax Identification Number or more popularly called TIN. It is issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) which is the tax-collecting body in the country and it certifies that the cardholder is a tax payer.
Daily, there are a lot of individuals in BIR offices who are processing an application to get a Tax Identification Number. The TIN is usually required in employment, loan applications, and many other legal transactions.
The application for a Tax Identification Number is open for a lot of individuals. Anyone in the following categories may apply for a TIN at the nearest office of the Bureau of Internal Revenue:
- anyone who earns an income in the Philippines (Filipinos and foreign nationals)
- self-employed Filipino and foreign individuals including:
- freelancers
- sole proprietors
- online sellers
- professionals
- mixed-income earners
- local and foreign estates in the Philippines
- Filipino-owned and foreign-owned corporate tax payers in the Philippines
- persons registering under EO 98 to be able to transact with other government offices
- one-time taxpayers including the individuals who will be paying any of the following:
- capital gains tax
- donor’s tax
- estate tax
- tax on winnings
With regards to the TIN requirements for application, the lists vary depending on the source of income of the applicant. For locally-employed individuals, here are the documents that must be submitted to the BIR for application:
- duly-accomplished BIR Form 1902
- valid ID issued by the government in the Philippines
- Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
In the case of employees in the Philippines who are foreign nationals, the passport and the work permit or photocopy of duly received Application for Alien Employment (AEP) must be submitted to the tax-collecting bureau as well.
