DSWD CASH ASSISTANCE FOR SOLO PARENTS – Here is a guide on the financial aid extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Truth be told that, nowadays, due to different reasons and situations, there are a lot of solo parents in the Philippines. In fact, in some cases, due to the death of a spouse, one (1) parent alone has to carry the responsibility of being both the father and mother of several children in the household — working to be able to provide for the needs of the family and managing the household at the same time.
If the solo parent is employed in the private sector, he/she is allowed for a limited number of paid leaves. It is a challenge in attending to his/her responsibilities as a parents like during instances of need for attendance to school meetings and events, medical cases, and other emergency situations.
The government recognizes the struggle and the additional challenge on the part of solo parents. Thus, several offices have special offers for parents who have to take the responsibilities of both the father and mother of their child or children.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, more popularly called DSWD, is one of the government agencies in the Philippines who want to help solo parents. The state entity has the DSWD Cash Assistance for Solo Parents.
The said cash assistance offer is fueled by the implementation of the Republic Act No. 8971 in the Philippines. It was signed into law on November 7, 2000 and it took effect on November 28, 2000. Its implementing rules and regulations or IRR was approved in April 2022.
The DSWD Solo Parent ID is open for both working and non-employed individuals who are single parents to their child/children. The cardholder is entitled to several benefits including an increased number of paid leaves.
