One of the state entities in the country is the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or more popularly called PhilHealth. Millions of Filipinos are members of the said state entity which provides several benefits for its members at a low-cost health insurance package.
Undeniably, in terms of health insurance, a PhilHealth membership is cheaper compared to the health insurance policies offered by private insurance providers. It is an excellent option most especially for low-income earners. At least, it provides a safety net in times of medical situations most especially emergencies.
The membership to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation may be mandatory or voluntary. The employees of the government and many companies and businesses in the private sector are required to maintain an active membership to the state entity.
Usually, the PhilHealth monthly contribution of these members are automatically deducted by their employers from their monthly salary. There are cases when employers can help in the payment of the premiums of their workers.
To maintain an active membership account, a member must regularly post a premium. An updated account may qualify a member to the in-patient and out-patient benefits of the state-run health insurance provider.
