SSS DEATH PENSION & LUMP SUM 2024 – Here is a guide for the beneficiaries of SSS members on who are qualified under the Death Benefit offer.

Have you heard about the SSS Death Benefit offer of the Social Security System? More popularly called SSS, the state-run social insurance institution has several benefit offers and it is one of it.

What makes the SSS Death Benefit different from all the other SSS benefits is that it does not mainly benefit the member but his/her family. Meanwhile, it also provides an assurance on the member that his/her family will have something to turn to financially if death comes to him/her.

Under the SSS Death Benefit offer, the beneficiaries may receive either the SSS Death Pension or Lump Sum depending on the total contributions posted by the member.

  • SSS Death Pension — This is granted to primary beneficiaries of deceased SSS members who have posted at least 36 monthly contributions prior to the semester of death.
  • SSS Death Lump Sum — The lump-sum is a one-time cash payment that is given to the beneficiaries of deceased SSS members who have posted a total of below 36 total contributions in his/her account prior to the semester of death.

The SSS Death Benefit amount also vary. Meanwhile, here are the classifications of the beneficiaries under the offer:

  • legal spouse
  • legitimate, illegitimate, and legally adopted children of the deceased SSS member who are 21 years old and below, disabled, or cannot financially support themselves
  • parents of the deceased SSS member

In case there is no primary and secondary beneficiaries, the person whose written as legal heir in the SSS records during the filing of registration may be eligible to file the claim. In filing for a claim, there are requirements for SSS Death Benefit application that must be submitted to the Social Security System.
