One of the situations that can bring a person to a lot of stress is unemployment. The burden may be heavier when the person who lost the job is a breadwinner. Truth be told that many members of the Social Security System, more popularly called SSS, are breadwinners of their families.
The Social Security System is one of the biggest state-run social insurance entities in the country. It does not only offer SSS loans but as well as benefit offers. One of the benefits is the SSS Unemployment Benefit which was designed for members who involuntarily lost their job.
However, the Social Security System also made it clear that there are some grounds of job loss that are not qualified under the benefit offer. According to the SSS, the unemployment due to any of the following situations is not qualified to the benefit offer:
- Gross and habitual neglect of duties
- Willful disobedience of legal orders from the employer or company
- Commission of crime or offense
- Voluntary resignation
- Serious misconduct or violation of the company’s rules and regulations
- Willful breach of trust or commission of dishonesty
Who are qualified to apply for the SSS Unemployment Benefit? Here are the qualifications under the benefit offer of the state-run social insurance institution:
- an active member of the Social Security System before the involuntary separation from work
- 18 years old and above upon the filing of claim but not over 60 years old
- with at least 36 monthly contributions posted
- not received any other SSS benefit
- no unsettled SSS Unemployment Benefit within the last three (3) years before the date of the current unemployment started
With regards to the SSS Unemployment Benefit amount, it is equal to 50% of your average monthly salary credits (AMSC). A member may be granted up to twice of the said amount.
For example, if your SSS Unemployment Benefit amount is Php 15,000, you may get Php 7,500 under the unemployment claim or up to Php 15,000 for a two-month claim. In filing for a claim, there are requirements for the SSS Unemployment Benefit application that must be submitted to the state-run social insurance institution.
