SSS – The Social Security System explained the ways for members to ensure the approval of his or her Unemployment Benefit application.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic did not only bring health risks but as well as financial struggles to several households. Many people lost their job amid the crisis as several businesses closed.

According to the report, out of more than 50,000 applications for the Unemployment Fund, over 37,000 applications were not approved by the institution. It is due to insufficient requirements or documents.

The SSS explained how to ensure the approval of the Unemployment Benefit application. According to the social insurance institution, the member must make sure that he or she complied with the following:

  • at least 36 monthly contributions
  • certification from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)
  • enrollment in my.SSS account including bank account

Based on the report, SSS Spokesman Fernan Nicolas clarified that the institution will not release cash for the Unemployment Benefit. The releasing will be electronic – through the bank account of the member or PayMaya or ML Lhuillier.

Applications in areas under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) can be done online. In other areas, the dropboxes are utilized.

    My mother is Lucia Valentino, a widow since 1981 and presently living in Bacolod City. Since February 2020 she received nothing of her pension as of Today. She did not appear to the nearest SSS branch due to quarantine and also suffering Rheumatism. Today my mother asked me to write you a message pertaining her suspended monthly pension.
