Guide on SSS Funeral Benefits for Beneficiaries – Monthly Pension or Lump Sum
SSS FUNERAL BENEFITS – The beneficiaries of a member of the Social Security System may get either a monthly pension or a lump sum.
There are several big social insurance institutions in the Philippines with excellent offers for the public. One of these is the Social Security System, more commonly called SSS, which is under the government.
Most of the members of SSS are employees in private companies and self-employed individuals. Meanwhile, the social insurance institution also has members who applied for voluntary memberships. Every month, they remit a certain amount to the social insurance institution as contributions or savings. The amount is case-to-case basis depending on the salary of the member.
The Social Security System has several offers for its members – loans, benefits, and other financial and emergency services. A member may be qualified for an offer depending on his or her total contribution or savings.
Some of the offers of the Social Security System extend to the family or beneficiaries of the members. Among these are the SSS Funeral Benefits which guarantee either a lump sum or a monthly pension to the beneficiaries in case the SSS member dies.
There are qualifications on whether the beneficiary will be getting a lump sum or a monthly pension. Under the SSS Funeral Benefits, the following are the basis:
- Monthly Death Pension
- The primary beneficiaries will get the monthly death pension if the deceased member has paid at least 36 monthly contributions prior to his or her death
- Lump Sum
- If the deceased member has paid less than 36 monthly contributions, the beneficiaries will get a lump sum.
According to the Social Security System, if there are no primary beneficiaries (spouse or children) and secondary beneficiaries (parents), the lump sum may also be claimed by the designated beneficiaries or legal heirs of the deceased member.
