Every month, an SSS member has to contribute a certain amount depending on his or her salary to the social insurance institution. In times of emergency, members with accumulated contributions have something to turn to.

SSS has several benefit offers for its members. One of these, the SSS Death Benefit, extends to the family of the member in case of his or her death. While death is something that many people avoid talking about, this benefit gives relief to members that their families will not be left with nothing.

How much the beneficiaries may receive under the SSS Death Benefit? According to the social insurance institution, it will actually depend on the total contributions made by the deceased member. Meanwhile, it has given the minimum amounts that beneficiaries may receive depending on the total contributions.

• If the deceased member had less than ten (10) Credited Years of Service (CYS), the minimum death pension is Php 1,000.00.
• If the deceased member had at least ten (10) Credited Years of Service (CYS), the minimum death pension is Php 1,200.00.
• If the deceased member had at least twenty (20) Credited Years of Service (CYS), the minimum death pension is Php 2,400.00.

Starting January 2017, the Social Security System gives an additional P1,000.00 benefit for the beneficiaries.
