A lot of Filipinos have graduated in college despite their poor financial situation in life through the help of scholarship programs. There are several public and private benefactors that offer assistance to those who are determined to push through with their studies.
One of the institutions in the Philippines that offer a scholarship program is the Commission on Higher Education. It is more popularly called as CHED and it is the governing body among the universities and colleges in the country.
What are the requirements for CHED scholarship program? There are both eligibility requirements or qualifications and documentary requirements in applying to be a CHED scholar.
To qualify, the student applicant must be:
- a Filipino citizen.
- a high school graduate or currently in the process of completing high school, and their academic performance is measured by the General Weighted Average (GWA)
- To be considered for the FSSP and FPESPA, the GWA must be 96% or higher.
- For the Half-SSP and Half-PESPA, the GWA should fall within the range of 93% to 95%.
- The total annual gross income of the applicant’s parents or guardian should not exceed Four Hundred Thousand Pesos (PhP 400,000). However, if the income surpasses this amount, the applicant can provide written certification or medical evidence of a family member’s illness, or school certifications showing that two or more dependents are currently enrolled in college.
- Applicants are limited to benefiting from only one government-funded financial assistance program.
With regards to the documentary requirements for the CHED scholarship program offer, the following documents are needed for application:
- certified true copy of the Birth Certificate
- duly-certified true copy of High school report card for incoming freshmen students eligible for college (High School Graduate); and
- duly-certified true copy of grades for Grade 11 and 1st semester of Grade 12 for graduating high school students.
- Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) of parents or guardian;
- Certificate of Tax Exemption from Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR);
- Certificate of Indigence either from their Barangay or Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD);
- Case Study report from DSWD; or
- Latest copy of contract or proof of income may be considered for children of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and seafarers.
To apply, go to a regional office of CHED in your area and submit the documents. The deadline is August August 15, 2023.
