OWWA SCHOLARSHIP CASH BENEFIT – Here is a guide on how much the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) scholars will get.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, more popularly called OWWA which is the state institution that governs to the concerns of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), is one of the entities with scholarship programs. One of its programs is the Education for Development Scholarship Program or more commonly called the EDSP.
The EDSP is designed to financially assist the qualified dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). It can assist incoming senior high school students as well as college freshmen and those students who are already in college.
The OWWA has set different eligibility criteria for aspiring scholars depending on the year level of the student.
Incoming Senior High School (Grade 12)
- must have at least 80% General Weighted Average (GWA) without failing grades upon application
- passed the qualifying examination to be conducted by DOST and belongs to the top 400 passers nationwide
Incoming Freshmen (1st Year College)
- Single
- Grade 11 graduate (Incoming Grade 12 / currently enrolled as Grade 12)
- Not more than 21 years old
- With a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 80% or higher. If required GWA is not yet available at the time of filing of application, the academic performance of the applicant in the two consecutive preceding school year shall be used as basis for evaluation
- Belonging to the top 400 qualifiers of the Department of Science and Technology national qualifying exam
2nd year to 5th year College Students
- Not more than 30 years old
- With a GWA not lower than B letter grade or 85% equivalence in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended in full load
With regards to the OWWA scholarship cash benefit for scholars, a financial assistance of P60,000 will be extended to each scholar per academic year.
Under the scholarship program, the picking of the scholars will be based on the DOST national examinations. The top 400 will be considered for entry as freshment while the 600 slots are for students who are already enrolled in college.
