Easy Steps on How to Update SSS Monthly Contribution Online through My.SSS Portal
HOW TO UPDATE SSS MONTHLY CONTRIBUTION – Here is a guide on how you can change your monthly contribution to the Social Security System.
The Social Security System (SSS) is one of the biggest state-run social insurance institutions in the Philippines. Most of its members are former and current employees of the private sector or the private companies in the country. It also has a huge chunk of self-employed members.
Aside from employees and self-employed individuals, some SSS members are overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and those who applied for a voluntary membership to the state-run social insurance institution. Every month, they post a contribution or savings to the agency based on the rate set.
Accumulated contributions can qualify a member to the SSS benefits and SSS loans that the state-run social insurance agency offers. With regards to the contribution rates, it may vary among members but it is changeable.
The Social Security System (SSS) has set restrictions on who can change their monthly contribution to the social insurance institution. Based on the SSS Circular No. 2015-007, the members who belong to the following categories may update their SSS monthly contribution including the frequency:
Voluntary Members
- If below 55 years old, the SSS has set an unlimited number of updates allowed.
- If 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contribution can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Self-Employed Members
- If below 55 years old, the SSS has set an unlimited number of updates allowed.
- If 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contribution can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Members
- If below 55 years old, the SSS has set an unlimited number of updates allowed.
- If 55 years old and above, the SSS monthly contribution can be raised only once a year and by one salary bracket from the last posted payment
Non-Working Spouse
The non-working spouse of an SSS member can change his/her monthly contribution rate at any age but the frequency depends on the changes of the working spouse’s declared monthly income.
The voluntary, self-employed and OFW members of the SSS who are 55 years old and below can decrease their monthly contribution but it should not be any amount lower than their Monthly Salary Credit (MSC).
