In the Philippines, millions of Filipinos are members of the Social Security System. More popularly known as SSS, the social insurance giant’s member populace includes Filipinos from different walks of life. It got individuals who are locally-employed in the private sector, self-employed individuals, and overseas Filipino workers. It also got voluntary contributors like the non-working spouses of SSS members.

Most private companies and offices require their employees to be members of the Social Security System (SSS). This ensures that workers have access to financial support and benefits they can rely on in times of need.
The Social Security System or SSS offers a range of loans and benefits to its members. Among these is the SSS Sickness Benefit, which provides financial assistance for both hospital confinement and home recovery.

The amount a member can receive under the SSS Sickness Benefit depends on their Average Daily Salary Credit (ADSC), with benefits covering up to 90% of that amount. Each member may claim sickness benefits for a maximum of 120 days within a calendar year.

Here are the SSS Sickness Benefit requirements in terms of eligibility, based on the latest guidelines:
- sick or injured and cannot report to work due to the condition
- has paid at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12-month period immediately before the semester of sickness or injury
- confined at a hospital or at home for at least four (4) days
- has duly notified his or her employer
- has used up all company sick leaves with pay for the current year
With regards to the SSS Sickness Benefit requirements that are documentary, listed below are the documents that you need to prepare and submit to the social insurance giant to file a claim.
- Sickness Benefit Application (SBA) Form
- SS ID/UMID card or any valid primary ID cards/documents, as follows:
- Passport
- Driver’s License
- National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance
- Voter’s ID Card
- Postal Identity Card
- Any other government-issued (secondary) ID cards/documents
- Supporting medical documents for prolonged confinement/sickness, if any:
- Laboratory
- X-ray
- ECG
- Other diagnostic results
- Operating room/clinical record supporting diagnosis
If the claim is processed by the member:
- original of any one (1) of the member’s primary ID cards/documents or two (2) secondary ID cards/documents, both with signature and at least one with photo
If the claim is processed by an authorized representative:
- original of any one (1) of the member’s and the authorized representative’s primary ID cards/documents or two (2) secondary ID cards/documents, both with signature and at least one with photo
