Banks have unique identifying features for security purposes. One of these is the unique swift code, an international code that is often used in financial transactions worldwide. The usage of these codes ensure a quick and secure transfer of money.
The Swift Code is also called as BIC or Business Identifier Code, SWIFT-BIC, or BIC code. It is also popularly called by other people as the Swift ID. It is usually composed of at least eight (8) characters.
The bank swift code observes a format — four-character bank code, two-character country code, two-character location code, and the three-character branch identifier which is optional.
A swift code is needed in international money transfers that is why it is important to know the swift code of the bank or remittance center where you plan to send the money. The money cannot be transmitted using a wrong code.
Thus, if you are the sender of the money, you need to provide the swift code of the bank where your recipient will get the money. The receiver must give the sender the right code for the success of the transaction.
There are several banks in the Philippines — BDO Unibank, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), UnionBank, Landbank of the Philippines, EastWest Bank, Citibank, Metrobank, Robinsons Bank, Asia United Bank (AUB), etc. Each of them has its own bank swift code 2023.
