Microsoft To Work w/ DepEd, ECOP to Raise Senior High Graduates’ Employability

Microsoft PH, DepEd & ECOP Hand-in-Hand in Increasing Employability of Senior High Graduates

Microsoft Philippines will work with DepEd and ECOP to improve the employability of the senior high school graduates.

It was in 2012-2013 when the Philippines adapted the implementation of the K-12 curriculum. Instead of the secondary education being composed of four (4) levels only, two years were added. The secondary education was divided between the junior high (grade 7 to 10) and the senior high (grade 11 and 12).

One of the benefits cited by the proponents of the K-12 program is the skills of the senior high graduates which make them fit for work. It is also an alignment to the standards observed by many other countries.

Those who believe in the benefits of K-12 also cited that it is helpful for the poor students who cannot pursue college. They can be employed in better job opportunities.

DepEd

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Education (DepEd) is really determined to increase the employability of the senior high graduates. It will work with Microsoft Philippines and the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) in working for it.

According to the report, Microsoft, DepEd, and ECOP aim to achieve its goal through the “Building Impactful Resume and Professional Brand Online”. Under this program, the three (3) bodies will introduce ways that are in line with the K to 12 program to prepare students for the demands of the modern employment field.

Microsoft said that senior high graduates who have certificate indicating a completion of the said program will be given a higher chance of getting the job in companies that are members of ECOP. Ferdinand Ferrer, the chairman of ECOP Job Creation Committee, expressed that they put importance on skills and certifications in the hiring process.

Ferrer further stressed that all jobs demand for “a level of digital competency”. Microsoft Philippines Public Sector Director Joanna Velez Rodriguez expressed her company’s commitment to helping 23 million students and nearly 900,000 teachers under DepEd in their digital transformation. The learners will have access to online training programs on problem-solving, communication, interview tips, and collaboration among others.
