Pork Meat Price in NCR May Possibly Increase due to Oil Price Hike

Update on Pork Meat Price amid Increasing Oil Price

PORK MEAT PRICE – An agriculture group spoke on another possible increase in the price of pork as the oil prices continue to go up.

The increase in the prices of goods and commodities greatly affect a lot of people most especially amid the COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines now. Many people lost their jobs and they can hardly put food on the table most especially with the prices of meat now.

A lot of those who lost their job are breadwinners of their families. In other cases, they still have their source of income but there are extra challenges now. For example, in the case of PUV drivers, they are calling for help from the government amid the series of oil price hikes.

PUV drivers claim that the reduction of the seating capacity already affected them a lot and the series of increases in fuel prices made it even harder for them to have at least a small amount to bring home to their families. Amid the oil price hike, there is another possible increase in pork meat price now.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura president Rosendo So said there is a possibility of another P20.00 pork meat price increase due to the oil price hike. Thus, a total of P40.00 increase may take place this month.

The group is calling for the government to remove the tariff so the oil price will go down. According to So, it will not only benefit the pork vendors but as well as farmers, consumers, and those who are in the food transport industry.

According to the report, in May 2020, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Executive Order 113 which raised the tariff on oil products by 10%. More updates may be posted soon.
