Update on Prices of Milk, Sardines, Oil this June
PRICES OF MILK – Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association (Pagasa) announced a price increase on some basic goods.
Many Filipinos share the same challenges now – the high pump prices in the country, the ongoing threats of the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in several memberships to attend to like the PhilHealth monthly contribution hike, and a lot more.
Also, there are increases in the prices of certain products and services. The pandemic has left a lot of people jobless and several households financially struggling. Many can hardly cope to provide food in the table at least thrice daily.
However, there are really a lot of factors that trigger these challenges. The ongoing war between Europe and Ukraine is one of the factors as it disrupts the supply chain across the globe. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it may trigger another increase in the prices of milk, sardines, and oil.
According to Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association (Pagasa) President Steven Cua, more than 10 manufacturers have warned about the increase in the prices of milk, sardines, and oil that they produce in the market. The milk products are pertaining to the evaporated milk.
Meanwhile, according to Pagasa’s President, the number of manufacturers that are set to implement an increase is lower compared to almost 30 manufacturers implementing price increases on the products that they sell in the market in May.
Cua advises the public to expect that the adjustments in the prices of goods will continue in the succeeding months as part of the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, based on the report, he clarified that the adjustments do not only refer to increases but as well as decreases.
The Pagasa President explained that the supply chain disruption due to the war can be traced to the situation’s effect on shipping lines. Several countries and giant companies have expressed condemnation of Russia for invading Ukraine.
