MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE IN DAVAO – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced the wage hike in the Davao region.

Many Filipino workers are having a hard time making ends meet because of the increasing prices of goods and basic commodities. The salary of most people has to be divided among the food and transportation expenses, the school fees for the kids, the utility bills, and the household essentials.

Amid the increasing prices of goods and commodities, a lot of workers are calling for a salary increase most especially the low-income earners. Many Filipinos appealed that they can hardly cope with the situation and they have even turned to debt to be able to handle the expenses as their salary is not enough.

Amid the appeals of the individuals in the labor sector, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in different regions approved proposals for salary increases. Based on a report on GMA News, the minimum wage in Davao has been approved.

Minimum Wage Increase in Davao

According to the report, the RTWPB in Davao region issued Wage Order No. RBXI-21 that grants a P47.00 wage increase for workers in the agriculture sector, non-agriculture sector, and retail or service establishments.

Reportedly, the salary increase will be implemented in two (2) tranches – P31.00 will be implemented upon its effectivity while the P16.00 will be effective January 1, 2022. With regards to the workers in the retail/service establishments with less than 10 workers, another P15.00 in the minimum salary will be added effective April 1, 2023.

According to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, “around 154,763 workers in private establishments and 64,111 domestic workers in the region are expected to benefit from the minimum wage increases”. Aside from the wage increase in Davao City, the RTWPB in Calabarzon also approved an increase in the minimum salary for workers in the region.
