GSIS EMERGENCY LOAN – Here is a guide on how much an earthquake victim may borrow from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

Recently, an earthquake hit Abra and its intensity made the shaking felt in several areas in Metro Manila. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) initially recorded the quake that hit Abra at 7.3 magnitude.

After a short while, Phivolcs downgraded the magnitude of the quake to 7.0. Several aftershocks in the form of strong quakes followed it. The strong quake resulted in damage to public and private infrastructure and loss of lives in several areas.

According to the Natural Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, at least five (5) people died due to the quake and over 160 individuals were left injured. Especially in Abra which is the epicenter of the quake, a lot of individuals lost their homes.

Classes and work are currently suspended in Abra and are set to resume on Monday, August 1, 2022. The province is currently under the State of Calamity.

Following the unfortunate event, several government agencies moved to assist the victims of the earthquake. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Government Service Insurance System is one of them and it is offering the GSIS Emergency Loan.

According to the report, GSIS Luzon operations group acting senior vice president Joseph Philip Andres said that the GSIS Emergency Loan offer is open for government employees in areas affected by the earthquake. The area must be under a state of calamity. The applicant may borrow up to P20,000.

Andres said that applications for the loan offer can be done through the GSIS Touch mobile app or applicants may also visit the branch of the government agency nearest to them for a personal application.
