In the Philippines, countless individuals consider their 13th month pay as one of the things they look forward to every December. This extra amount they receive in the last month of the year is used in several ways.
For parents, this type of pay is usually used in clearing the debts incurred all throughout the year, for the food preparations during holiday events, for the gifts of the children, and for the payment of the utility bills. For the much younger generation who are part of the work field, many take their pay as a chance to get the gadget, shoes, clothing, or another thing they greatly want to purchase.
In the case of people who are into saving, the 13th month pay is a huge chance to keep some amounts in the bank. However, not everyone is entitled to this type of pay which is also referred as a holiday pay — in PH, it is given every December which is a month of many holidays.
Who are qualified to receive the 13th month pay? This type of pay is given to employees in the Philippines, regardless of their ranks, who have worked for at least a month in the company.
However, not all employees receive this type of pay. Those who are exempted from the said pay include government employees, household employees, and those who are paid on a commission basis. Meanwhile, the employers of household workers and those who are working on a commission basis have the freedom to give their workers holiday extra pays.

In the case of government employees, they don’t receive a 13th month pay but they have the mid-year and the year-end bonuses. The former is given between June and July while the latter is given between November and December.
Each of the mid-year and year-end bonuses of the government employees is equivalent to a one-month salary. They are also given an extra P5,000 Christmas bonus every December.
