Foreign Travelers Must Pay Thailand Visitor Fee To Enter the Country

THAILAND VISITOR FEE – The government will implement a visitor fee for foreign travelers beginning April 2022.

The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly pulled the economy of several nations. Long lockdowns prevented businesses’ full operation and many firms had no choice but to shut down. Even the import and export operations were affected by the pandemic.

Currently, it continues to challenge nations and it even required a more intensified fight with the emergence of new variants of the virus. There is now another variant of concern, the Omicron, that was reported to be a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus.

Several nations now are implementing travel restrictions to prevent the entry and spread of the Omicron variant. However, the said variant circulated fast and many countries are facing an upward trend in their cases again. Several tourism sectors of different nations which have yet to recover are pulled again by the current situation.

Thailand Visitor Fee

The new threat is another challenge to the economy of several nations in several aspects. With regards to Thailand, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, it is planning to implement a Thailand visitor fee for foreign travelers starting April 2022.

According to the report, the move to implement a Thailand visitor fee is for the purpose of improving the infrastructure to boost the country’s tourism and for the insurance coverage of the tourists as well.

Thailand government’s spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said that the fee will be applied to the airfares. This 2022, the tourism revenues of the country are expected to reach between $24 billion to $51 billion this year as to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Out of the said estimated collection, around $24 billion is expected to come from foreign travelers.

With regards to the estimated number of foreign travelers to visit the country, it is at five (5) million in case the current travel modes will remain. Prior to the pandemic, around 40 million foreign tourists visit the country yearly.
